How to File an Air Quality Complaint

Problem

You are experiencing an air quality issue such as excessive odors, smoke, dust, or other air contaminants in the South Coast Air Basin and need to report it.

Solution

You have two options to file an air quality complaint:

Option 1: Call the hotline

Call 1-800-CUT-SMOG (1-800-288-7664). This line operates 24 hours a day. You will speak with a representative who will take down the details of your complaint, including the location, type of contaminant, and duration.

Option 2: Submit online

Visit the South Coast AQMD online complaint system at https://xappp.aqmd.gov/complaints. You will fill out a form describing the air quality issue, provide your location, and submit it for investigation.

What happens after you file a complaint

South Coast AQMD staff investigates all complaints received. Investigators review the reported conditions and, when appropriate, conduct on-site inspections of the source. South Coast AQMD maintains complainant personal information as confidential to the extent allowed by state and federal law.

Smoking vehicles

To report a smoking vehicle, call 1-800-CUT-SMOG (1-800-288-7664). Provide the license plate number, vehicle description, and location.
